A True Show Stopper

The Ohio State School for the Blind's Marching Band will make its first Jackson County appearance in the Wellston Coal Festival Parade on Saturday, September 12th beginning at 6:30 pm. This band, the only blind marching band in the nation (and possibly the world), has also been selected to march in the nationally televised 2010 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California on New Year's Day.

Co-Directors of the band are Dan Kelley and Carol Agler. The band became a marching band in 2005 when the Ohio School for the Deaf revived its football program after a 30+ year hiatus. There are currently 35 members in the band and about as many sighted marching assistants.

Come see this awesome and talented group of musicians and come see history being made. These young men and women are a testament to overcoming adversity and becoming champions.

Clara (Holcomb) Woods was born to Levi and Ruby Holcomb on September 18, 1933 in Minerton, Ohio. She was born into a family of twelve siblings. Clara attended school in Wilkesville, and her graduating class, the Class of 1951, was the last class to graduate from Wilkesville High School. After graduation, Clara married James R. Angles. They have two children, Brenda Danver and Richard Angles. Clara and James divorced and Clara later entered into a second marriage to Robert "Bob" Woods. Together they have two children, Michael and Brian.
